Notes on From This Weekend's Market

1) This week, we're trying agretti (top pic), which the farmer described as an Italian green like arugula. For me, it's not at all like arugula. Arugula tastes peppery; agretti tastes like fresh. It's an Italian green like a lightly salted cucumber rendered in a sturdy chive.

2) Radishes are my least favorite vegetable. Melissa Clark's recent revelation that I can cook them-- and, what's more, do so with anchovies-- demands a reappraisal.

Hello Erk, Thank you for your blog. I am happy to respond and let you know I've just spent an hour or so enjoying your photography. I am writing an article on communication skills during physical exercise and the elderly. It has been accepted for publication and I need your permission to use the photograph entitled: “Women's calisthenics, circa 1920's” which you posted on http://gardenoffashes.blogspot.com/2007_10_01archive.html. Please contact me at your earliest convenience with (hopefully) your written consent. Thank you and all the best as
