Pink

The best thing about my new mauve knickers:
the pink stitching that holds everything together.

I have had several conversations with a dear friend of mine (who happens to be a superb colorist) about the many virtues and misrepresented beauties of mauve. We fear the 80s and early 90s spoiled the world's understanding of the color..frequent pairings with turquoise, dusty blues, rose and forest green have done nothing for us. It remains one of our very favorite colors...one whose applications are varied, one whose emotive potential runs deeply. Its all about context, of course.

Glad you're helping the cause by sporting these beauties. I like to think you may be spotted on your bicycle wearing them with your grocery bag tank and plastic chaps.

I, for months now, have been on a quest for mauve stationery. So far, no luck.

Also, the boyfriend of the aforementioned colorist friend seems to have a mauve allergy. For realz.

As a child, he would get physically ill, even vomiting, while sitting in the living room of his elderly neighbor whose livingroom was painted mauve. It happened repeatedly and the response continued every time he faces the color. Now 40, the allergy continues and as a graphic designer he is unable to be around mauve without feeling like shit.

Fascinating, no?

Color allergies!?! The notion makes me consider our use of the word taste to describe aesthetic sensibilities, aesthetic bents. When we look at colors, we take them into our bodies and sometimes our bodies react violently. I'm going to ponder the mauve allergy for a really really long time. It's downright Firbankian.

Nothing has intrigued me as much as this color allergy thing. Thankfully, I have no such lively negative color allergies to speak of...not as much as Mr. Mauve, at least. Though I do have a steady disinterest in cool hues, and am certain that warm reds and red oranges help me heal. I wear red undergarments at tough times, for good luck, or when added strength is needed. When you last saw me speak at the university, I had a complete underlayer of red.

Am I crazy? Does anyone else do this? What super powers might your mauve undershorts inspire?
